You can learn more and preorder the book here!
Pictured: the cover. (Not drawn by me.) I can't show you my drawing just yet, but I think it's pretty cute, and I will hopefully have official posters of it available at the San Diego Comicon.
EDIT: Oh hey, that page doesn't mention... this is a Special Edition of the book. A normal edition will be in stores in September for a normal price. (The special edition on the website and at conventions will be $80)

This one is part of an image that will be the cover of a forthcoming issue of DRAW! Magazine, featuring an interview with me and a bunch of exclusive sketchbook art and whatnot.
It's kinda looking like the book will get delayed until Nov. 14th because of shipping issues, so I'll try and do up this Kim/Wallace wallpaper that I've been thinking about.
I got a first-bound copy of the book yesterday and it is to my liking, so I believe we will share it with you all.

They are also available on scottpilgrim.com, which has been very gently updated in anticipation of a true overhaul for the release of Vol 4. (The website hasn't been redesigned since book 2 came out!) Everyone: if there is anything you think a scottpilgrim.com site absolutely needs to have, now's your chance to tell me.

This will probably be my last post for a while, because I have some traveling lined up. (I mean, theoretically I'm still on hiatus, but...)
The weather here has been really lousy, and we can't wait to go someplace else. I hope to see some of you in New York this weekend, and I also hope to both eat and shop until I drop.
There is now a line of "Mr. Men" t-shirts and merchandise. Has anyone seen these? Like, at the mall? I bought a "Mr. Noisy" shirt. It actually has a Mr. Men tag and everything, they're a branded set, it's not a cheap knockoff, so that's nice. It's weird to have my childhood co-opted by someone other than me, but at least it's a cute shirt.
Here's an ad for the new book.

This is one of two covers for COMICS FESTIVAL 2007, a Free Comic Book Day comic book. I think the other cover will be by Darwyn Cooke. Look for it on Free Comic Book Day, Saturday May 5th (I think it's the day after the new Spider-Man movie comes out or some such). It will have some other miscellaneous comics by me inside, and a bunch of other short stories and strips by exciting creators such as Hope Larson and Chip Zdarsky.
ADDED NOTE: There are a LOT of free comics for stores to choose from this year, so if you want to get this, please check with your local comic store as soon as possible to make sure they're ordering some.
Chris is very busy today, so this has been a public service announcement on his behalf.
Also, I'm planning to do promo postcards featuring this image (without all the text). Look for those at APE and MoCCA, probably.

I did a comic for Toronto's NOW Magazine recently. It is vaguely autumn-themed. For those of you who missed that, here it is. (Above: sketchbook from development of same.)
( cut for bigness )
I joined this thing called VOX, which I may play with a bit in the coming days. It's like an amalgamation of a livejournal-type-thing and flickr and some other crap, plus you can upload songs, so it might be worth a damn. It's hard to tell right now.
Hopefully I'll squeeze out another Painter painting later on. Thanks for the luv on the other ones.
The girls' shirt is "sangria", which is redder than fuscia, but still with a pink tone. The boy shirt is more of a purple/violet colour. More colours and designs coming eventually (as well as availability for this design).
Speaking of The Coast, our friend Mike Holmes has a new strip debuting this week. Also he's a puppeteer and working on various projects for Oni Press!!! His strip is replacing Hope's She's From Away, which will continue less-frequently as a webcomic only.
And speaking of Hope Larson, her website just got a fancy-pants new design. She designed and coded that thing all by herself, she's crazy like a loon! I'm pretty much ready to scale my site back to a simpler, less-bloggy, 2004ish design...
- Music:arthur c clarke's mysterious world (in my head)
Check out House of Sugar, a weekday-updating webcomic version of Rebecca Kraatz's criminally-overlooked comic strip! Hope will be publishing a full-length House of Sugar collection later this year. (There's also a livejournal feed that hasn't started updating yet as of this writing, but add it anyway!)
(If you know who Joel Plaskett is, well, Rebecca has been his girlfriend for a million years and has done many album covers for him. And in the interests of full disclosure: I personally designed and coded the website for the webcomic.)
Recent stuff!
- CHUD interviews me (with Devin Faraci, at MoCCA on Saturday)
- Fluxblog interviews me (with Matthew Perpetua, via Gmail Chat, early last week)
- Torontoist interviews me (with Mathew Kumar, in Toronto a few weeks back)
i vaguely recall the setlist i played at the mocca afterparty...
- 21 (i fucked it up pretty bad because i realized how drunk i was only after i started playing the chords)
- totally untitled
- lydia long-ago
- you practically rock
- refresh me (i haven't really recorded the final version of this one, it's the "i fought the war, i got the girl, kill me now" song)
- stars
- don't let the archons get you down (this is a new song that i haven't recorded yet, but it came out pretty well at the show)
The show went well. I sold out of books (24 volume 1, 18 volume 2, 54 volume 3?) in a matter of hours, and did a few interviews. I ate three lunches (a taco, some sushi, and later Subway with Chris).
Afterwards Chris and I went to check out the preparations for the afterparty, and then we went across the street and I had just one (double) gin and tonic, and a pile of fried calamari, and I became extremely drunk very fast, probably due to tiredness and a crazy day. We went upstairs and I had one beer and I played my songs. I felt drunk at first but better once I finished the first song. The last (new) song came out well and people said "woo" at the best part and that made me feel good.
Later we went on Jon's roof with the Dumbrella boys and some of their random lady-friends. I also ate pizza during this section and it was extremely delicious (breaded chicken w/ tomato).
Sunday was more low-key. I bought shirts, Hope bought a dress, we hung around the show, ate sushi, etc. Crazy dinner at the end of the show at Spring Street Natural with like a zillion people. My caeser salad was good but Hope's meal apparently not so good. We ducked out pretty early and said bye to everyone. We went to see A Prairie Home Companion at a nice movie theater on Houston east of 2nd Ave. Conversation with the guy who took our tickets:
ME: Is there a bathroom upstairs?
HIM: Maybe.
ME: Maybe?
HIM: Nice shirt. (turning to Hope) Nice dress.
On Monday we walked around, bought kitchen stuff (her: sweet rolling pin, me: Microplane grater w/ rubber handle), looked at comic and book-stores in St Marks Place, ate at Cafe Colonial (Hope said it was her favourite meal of the trip - she had the Brazilian beans and rice). Hopped in a cab, dragged our asses back to the airport. Bought books (her: The Devil Wears Prada, me: Until I Find You). The end!
"There are lots of comics about nerdy boys, but fewer about nerdy girls, and I think there should be more!"
Hope Larson has a book deal with Simon & Shuster and you can read about it here, thanks to Heidi MacDonald and Publishers Weekly Comics Week!
Note: I am currently married to Hope Larson. (woo)
- The Toronto Star profiled me on Saturday. Nice article! It was almost a full page and had a bunch of pictures. If anyone can provide a scan that would be cool.
EDIT: Here's a scan on my flickr. (Thanks Heather!) - I went to Anime North and also had a release party. Thank you to everyone who came and saw me, and apologies to anyone who was disappointed by my contributions to the release party. I really just wanted to sign books and talk to people and maybe play some music. I never intended to do a reading. It was a false rumour! The music fell through because we couldn't get any gear. Also, the new room at Rocco's didn't have a sound system yet, nor a liquor license, so the party kind of migrated towards the alcohol pretty soon (not my fault!). I really am sorry to all the under-19 crowd, but I'm really glad you came.
Anime North was pretty good. The anime scene is enormous and slightly frightening these days (and very young, and largely female), but everyone seems very sweet. I got a picture of a girl dressed up as Yuna from FFX-2 on my cellphone, and I swear to god she looked exactly like my Yuna toy! I only bought a few things - a little Mario/Blooper keychain from Magic Pony, and a few video games (Space Channel 5 and Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter). Oh, and Devil Man volume 1. Also a lot of used manga from J-town.
EDIT: here's the photo from my cellphone. Warning: obviously it's a terrible photo, from a camphone. Looked better in real life. - Dumb request, but since there's 500 or whatever people reading this, I might as well ask: does anyone have a copy of the PS2 game "Shadow Hearts: Covenant" that they want me to have? I can't find it anywhere (it's out of print I guess), and I always wanted to play it, but I was too busy before. I will trade you whatever you want for it. Or I can just borrow it for a while and send it back to you?
I command you to check it out. And post links to it everywhere you can. (It was originally going to be on one of the comics news sites, but that fell through, so now it's just on Gordon's site, and it could stand to get some publicity.)
In other news, my Scott Pilgrim standup/cutout guy is finished (thanks mostly to Hope) and he is amazing! You can see him at MoCCA and Anime North and hopefully we'll get some nice pictures. Okay, he's probably not THAT amazing to you, but he's amazing to me. I love him. :(

FREE SCOTT PILGRIM is now available online, courtesy Newsarama!
They are also running an interview with me next week to celebrate the release of volume 3. Which, yes, comes out next Wednesday as far as I know, unless things get extremely fucked up. We'll see if it's on the list tomorrow, I guess.

I finally fixed this thing, so I would really appreciate it if a bunch of people could go in there and seed stuff for a while. Especially my "new album", Before the Beginning and After the End. That's twelve songs I've been slowly working on since last May, and some of you might like it. I think this is as official a release as it's going to get, so please seed (and let me know what you think of it).
I put the song "I'm Done" on my PureVolume player if you want to hear a sample (it's also downloadable).
The album / songpack / whatever doesn't have any cover art, but the zip file includes a .txt with all of the lyrics.
Everything on these songs was done entirely by me, because I'm an irrepressible egomaniac. (Track 2 is a cover of a song by the Microphones / Mt Eerie / Phil Elverum, done without permission or anything, but purely for fun and out of respect/admiration/etc. None of this material is intended for profit in any way.)
P.S. If you have some of the torrents already downloaded on your computer, and you are a nice person, could you please re-open them and seed for a while? Right now I am the only person seeding, which is sad for everyone.

It'll be a nice glossy 4x6 postcard. I'll have them at Paradise con in Toronto next weekend, and maybe similar buttons, too. I think the postcards will be $1 since, uh, they cost me money to make, and I would like to recoup that money.
I'm also getting enough postcards (I think) to send them out along with books, when I start doing mail-order for Book 3. Late May / early June for that.
EDIT: at someone's request, I also thought to make desktop-wallpaper versions for your computering delight.
