After finishing volume 3, I've done about 550 pages of Scott Pilgrim.

I have a question for everyone, so if you read this take a second and post a reply. How did you first come to read Scott Pilgrim? Did a friend force you to look at it? Did you read a good review? Did you just see it on the shelf?

If you want to, you can also mention where you got it, whether online or at a big bookstore or just at your local comic shop. (Especially if you got it at the comic shop, really, because I should be doing more retailer outreach...)

And of course if you don't own either of the books, I'm not mad at you! I know a lot of people seem to lend them out to friends like crazy, and that's a huge portion of the audience right there. If you're looking forward to Volume 3, and you don't own 1 or 2, I think that's magically awesome.

I read Greg McElhatton's review of Lost at Sea, and dug your style pretty instantly, so that book was on my radar, thought I never actually saw it anywhere. And it seemed like pretty quickly thereafter, Greg reviewed SP1. I was pretty surprised because you seemrd crazy-prolific. As you know, Greg's review for SP was about as amazing a review as you could possibly hope for, and he posted that 13-page preview, so after that I actually started asking around about it (and I'm not really one to really seek out comics--they usually find me first). Cosmic Comics (23rd & Madison in NYC) hadn't heard of it, and Jim Hanley's Universe (33rd St. in NYC) had one copy. That's where I bought mine.

I found a cheap copy of Lost at Sea at a second hand book shop and I enjoyed it enough to see what else you'd done. I'm so glad I did !

I actually was forced to read the first one by one of Rey's friends, and then instantly wanted to read more. I found that they're being sold at Barnes and Nobels and picked up 1 and 2. Just to own them, even though I had read borrowed copies.
I then read lost at sea, so I'm working my way backwards I guess.

After I had the pleasure of meeting both you and Hope this past fall at the Baltimore ComicCon, I purchased the Scott Pilgrim books from a B&N and Salamander Dream from Hope's website (via Amazon) almost immedietly.

I re-read them very often :)

I used to follow you and Hope online and loved your Lost at Sea stuff on your site, so it was just a natural progression from there. I work at the local comic shop so ofcourse i get all my stuff there and have turned a few customers onto your books. (I dug the free comics book day story btw!) I must admitt I liked the SP books so much better the second time I read them and now i can't wait for #3.

I found out about Pilgrim from a buddy at work, I resisted at first and then one day read the preview for volume 1 online. Loved it. The next day went to The comic book shoppe on Bank in Ottawa and picked up volume 1, read that and right away went back to the store for volume 2. It wasnt there so I had to wait. In the meantime though between getting 2 I also checked out lost at sea which was totally wicked. I now push Pilgrim on my friends more than any other comic, everyone loves it

I kept hearing SCOTT MOTHERFUCKING PILGRIM from comic creators and stores, and then several friends kicked my teeth in for not having read it.

Eventually I went to Amazon and bought it, thinking "Well, if it sucks, I have some teeth-kicking revenge to get it..."

No teeth have been avenged, and I bought v.2 from a local comic shop.

I might be in the minority, but I got an advance of SP1 for the Newsarama.com interview. I hope to someday be able to do a more incluse and spanning interview than that one. Argh.

I still bought SP1 when it came out, from the online retailer Khepri.com.

I read about it on the http://www.bkv.tv/ forums about other readers favorite graphic novels. And my friend is now a fan after I bought him a copy as a gift (Chicago Comics). So two readers via Brian K.Vaughan.

People were giving me shit left and right, saying "Scott Pilgrim this, and Scott Pilgrim that..." that I finally just picked up both at Forbidden Planet and dug them immediately. Basically, I came through word of mouth and I'm glad I did. I really enjoy the story. Looking forward to the new one.

I was encouraged to read v1 by a friend who owned it, and I loved it. Sadly, my library doesn't carry them, so I'm still waiting to borrow v2, but I fully intend to read them all sooner or (more probably) later.

I think it was whatever that Oni special that had a lost at sea teaser??? Am I making that up, or am I remembering that right? Then I picked up Hopeless Savages vol 2 and Lost at Sea around the same time. At that point I was hooked man, HOOKED!

My fried has a friend who dug you so he gave my friend the first two. Me being my friend's girlfriend at the time, I borrowed them from him.

'Course, the friend of my friend who was my boyfriend also gave him something about a Man Shark, but we didn't like that nearly as much.

Rock on.

One of these days, (maybe when three comes out) I'ma buy 'em myself.

I've been reading your stuff and paying attention to your work since WEF and CMA. Lost at Sea and Scott Pilgrim are the books I've been waiting years to see you produce.

I was looking for a gift for my girlfriend, and my friend Aaron who works at the local shop forced it upon me. I didn't think my girl would like it, but I was intrigued enough to get it for myself, and fell in total love with it.

I ended up being wrong, though, because after volume two came out, she ended up reading and loving them :-P

Issue 1 & 2
Well, I've been keeping track of your work on your website, so I got word of your book there. I met ya @ Baltimore Comic-con last year (?... are you going this year?), but you ran out of copies. Luckily I also went to SPX that year and snagged a copy. That same weekend I found vol 2 at a Barnes and Noble and quickly bought cause I finished reading vol 1. I seriously cant wait til v3.
Have an awesome weekend,
Carlos

I do not remember exactly how I discovered Scott Pilgrim #1, but I'm going to assume it was from the library, where I was discovering most comic books at the time! I was living in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and their libraries have a graphic novel section with is getting pretty respectable. I recognised your name becuase used to read your comics on THRILLED all the time, and went down to Hill City Comics to buy it! I pre-ordered Scott Pilrim 2 and Lost at Sea through your livejournal so I got them both signed.

Since I've been at Sheridan I've lent out all three books to about six or seven different people, and told them they all have to go buy number 3 when it comes out since I won't be around to lend it to them. (will we be able to pore-order signed comics of #3 through your journal when the time comes?)

i figured i should read it so i did and it ruled. in terms of how i heard about it, i'm sure you know i didn't like, see it on fucking aint it cool news. i bought it at a comic shop here, within the first week of it being releaseed. i think i might have had to make them order it, i know i had to make them order sharknife.

i was a few months late on scott pilgrim 2 because that little store that had the first one didn't have the second when i went so i kind of forgot about it, then i saw it at barnes and noble, freaked out and bought it. and liked it almost more than the first one.

I think hopeless savages: ground zero was the first thing I bought that was drawn by you, but I had been following your stuff atleast a year before that.

Anyways I got my local comic shop guy(comix gallery in wilmette IL) to order the SP books, he really likes them.

I bought Vol 1 at Collector's Edge Comics North, in Milwaukee, WI. Then I moved to Pittsburgh, PA and bought Vol 2 at Phantom of the Attic in Oakland, which is where I'll probably be buying Vol 3. I bought both volumes for my brother for his birthday and I ordered them over Amazon. I can't remember how I first heard of Scott Pilgrim, but I remember looking forward to it's release so I'm guessing it was an online preview or review of some sort. My Vol 1 is pretty beat up from all of the loaning it to friends and it's gotten great response from everybody. Looking forward to Vol 3!
