It was a busy blur. I did two signings on Friday, saw the SPACED panel, hung out a bit, ate a pretzel dog, bought some crap, sold some crap, signed some crap, tried to get to Capcom and was rebuffed by insane crowds (sorry Jim!), bailed out, changed clothes, ate some crab, had a beer, walked around, bought a pair of Pumas (rad), went to the Oni party, had a couple drinks, chatted w/ folks, started losing my voice, decided to call it a night.
CELEB SIGHTINGS (FRIDAY): Sarah Silverman, Masi Oka, Stan Lee (all at the Oni/UTA party, in passing - we didn't interact with them or anything)
I also saw Kal Penn. He was waiting for an elevator, but the one we were on was full.
OH MY GOD, CELEBS, RIGHT?
Saturday: more of a blur. At 7 AM we looked out the window of our hotel room and saw that there was an enormous WAVE of people waiting to get in (not a line/queue, a WAVE).
We had room service breakfast. That was great.
I ran down to the con just minutes before it opened. Grabbed some TWILIGHT swag for Hope (cause I noticed the booth), bought some more artbooks at Kinokuniya...
I chatted with Joe and Eric (publisher and Hollywood Person) for a bit. I was feeling pretty frazzled and I wasn't even signing til noon, so I went out back and sat on the steps by the harbour and chilled out for a while, which was good.
SIGNING!
Afterwards we grabbed lunch with pals (pretty great Mexican in a relatively quiet place) and returned for MORE SIGNING! Then back out to the steps for an impromptu photoshoot with Charlie Chu.
Then ONI PANEL! Which was chaotic, but well-attended. Thanks so much to everyone who came out. I know I recognized so many of you from the past few days and it seemed like a lot of you were there for Scott Pilgrim and I'm sorry I didn't talk more about the book and engage with you more in general. Aren't those little panel rooms so awful and banal, though? They sap the life right out of you. Hopefully if we do that again, it'll be better.
CELEB SIGHTINGS (SATURDAY): Sarah Silverman again. God, she's, like, everywhere or something?? Also saw Bill Nighy. He looked like a nice person. Oh, and Matthew Fox signed at the Oni booth, which was odd. He will always be Racer X to me and has a free makeout pass with either me or Hope should he ever choose to cash it in. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
So, I had a good time. It was intense and overwhelming (as always) and it's humbling to meet so many people who like my work. You guys rock. I wish I could give you all special VIP treatment. I'm still pretty new to this meet 'n greet stuff, so bear with me.
EDIT: I ALSO GOT TO FEED MATT FRACTION & KELLY SUE'S BABY, HENRY LEO, A PIECE OF BUNNY CEREAL. CON HIGHLIGHT.

All the sites have like 50 posts about more secret invasion crap but they cant cover the one publisher that puts out the most exciting and challenging books. Garbage.
God, this was annoying...

Not even the larger comic book sites (that praise the SP books whenever they come out) bothered to report on the Oni Panel. It was very frustrating.

The Matthew Fox signing was madness. Both Matthew and the fans were awesome, though, so it made life a lot easier.
Glad you and Hope survived! It was like every other question involved when you were going to be at the booth, or if people could get a deal if they bought all the merch and all the books at once, which is pretty damn exciting.

In the same way, if I were to watch Into the Wild again, it would be doubly sad when Speed dies at the end.

I hope that I can even handle next years sdcc.
Missing the con feels like running to canada while all
my pals shipped off to war.
It sounds good though.

cerial made for (or of) bunnies I will assume.

I wouldn't hold your breath. Con was menaced this year by panels stuck in rooms too small for demand. I barely got into half of the panels I planned to see, even if I got in line up to an hour early.
Couple that with the security droids that get more rude and belligerent every year, and the rising cost ($40 last year, $50 this year, $65 next year at the advance-registration rates,) and after 13 years, I'm done.

...Matt Fraction has children? He's already bred? They warned us about that, but we didn't listen...

I was sad not to be able to stop by for a signing-- I was working at my boyfriend's table-- but I DID score a blue SP shirt Wednesday night! Woot.
