Original page 23

That page there is the FIRST PAGE EVER DRAWN!

And if you click here, you can see the original plot outline for the first half of Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life, scribbled down the margin of a page of notes.

On my flickr there's some other stuff, like pages of script, and I even dug up one of the original release party flyers.

You started with page 23?

What's wrong with page 1 like the rest of us, you non-conformist!

I think it was a test page, to figure out what I was doing, and this was the earliest scene that I was sure I'd include. I was still in the middle of writing the book.

Yeah, I remember you saying somewhere back that you didn't start at the beginning. I kinda figured it was this chapter, it's got some of that leftover Lost at sea vibe.

What was the motivation behind switching to lettering the comic digitally? Time, overall look...? And which do you prefer if you had a choice?

Also, what made you switch fonts for vol. 4? I love 'Cutthroat', and it looks great... tired of the old font?

I switched to computer lettering because (a) it suits the "translated manga" aesthetic I was going for, and (b) I got wrist problems from lettering my first book, Lost At Sea.

Yeah, it's faster, too.

I switched fonts because the old font (anime ace) is all over the friggin' place now, being poorly used in all kinds of shitty books. And the Orzechowski-style lettering is my ideal.

I stopped using anime ace because James and Doug said it made their eyes bleed.

you should totally make "the art of Scott Pilgrim" with all this work, you might as well get it published or something like that
