Today I sat in a conference room on the Universal lot for six hours.

Edgar took me through every page of all four Scott Pilgrims and asked me if every visual thing was a reference or homage, or if I made it up myself. Basically, I had some 'splainin' to do.

See, in the movie business, they have to get clearance rights for all these little teeny things that nobody's too worried about me doing in the comic books.

I guess there's a difference between a crappy black and white drawing of a brand name and a giant cinema-screen-sized moving photograph of a brand name.

Afterwards, I cured my ills by lolling around my hotel bed for a while, then going to the mall and buying some manga and quasi-healthy fast food.

The mall didn't have Tezuka's DORORO (vol 1 of which was just released). So sad. They did have copies of all four Scott Pilgrims, though, which was unusual.

I wish I had stopped by Meltdown on my way back from Universal. Maybe tomorrow.

If I can survive until midnight, I am going to see IRON MAN with some of the fellows. If I can survive to the end of IRON MAN, I will come back to my hotel room and sleep. Beautiful sleep.

Whenever I visited L.A. I made time for Meltdown. Now I live here and don't have the time (although I work with their former book buyer). That place is comic book heaven.

This post reminded me that I should stop in tomorrow. After a week of working in comics I should reward myself with some comics.

I overheard some bro-dudes on the train the other night trying to talk up the fact they went to a premiere (or at least, special screening) and from what I could decipher from their bro-dudeisms, they totally luved it brah. So I assume you shall as well.

Yeah, I remember when I was writing a little, crappy story as a kid, and I used Blockbuster in it, a large, video rental place. I was stumped as to if I had to use the trademark sign or not. I think, in movies, they can mention anything they want but not show it? Eh, I'm probably wrong.

And I actually just came back from watching Iron Man, and I enjoyed it immensely. Possibly the best Marvel Movie since X-Men 2.

I would really like to get my hands on those Dorroro's. I like the ranch kind with bean dip. :)

Seriously though, the thing I admire most about Tezuka is how he really fleshed out the worlds he created. Each time he came up with a character (I speculate) he then wrote a little universe for them and made a wealth of content to prove its existence. The work is very satisfying in that way.

everyone knew about this, but then the credits cut off... they shut down the projector before the credits even finished, and we didn't get to see samuel L. jackson. everyone was sad.
