"Where is my book"

I wish it was easy to get a copy of Scott Pilgrim volume 4, but it's still kind of hard (and confusing). Here is my attempt to explain.

1. Good comic stores who ordered plenty of copies should still have copies. Examples of good comic stores: the Beguiling (Toronto), Strange Adventures (Halifax NS), Chapel Hill Comics (north carolina), Jim Hanley's Universe, Midtown Comics and Rocketship (all NYC), Comix Experience and Comic Relief (both Bay Area California), Meltdown (Los Angeles), Gosh (London UK), Page 45 (Nottingham UK), many more that I can't list. Obviously, not everyone lives in one of these cities. Some of these shops do mail-order and you could check the website of your closest one and find out.

2. Khepri.com probably has copies (if anyone knows, please inform me). They're an online comic store. Here is another one: In Stock Trades dot com.

3. As far as I know, most of the Big Box Bookstores (Barnes & Noble, Borders, Chapters, Indigo, etc) do not have copies yet. If you work at one of these stores or corporations in a knowledgeable capacity, please inform me otherwise.

3a. I am told Borders ordered "several hundred" copies. Which would mean less than one book per store.

4. Straight from Randal C. Jarrell, Managing Editor, Oni Press: "Amazon has already received their initial shipment and shipped all of those orders. They have already put in a few hundred more reorders." If you have an e-mail from Amazon telling you your book has shipped, PLEASE TELL ME! Other people are saying that Amazon tells them the book won't come until January, but this is absolutely not true - Amazon just defaults to the latest imaginable date and hopes you'll be pleasantly surprised if your order comes earlier.

5. Many comic stores will receive their reorders this week or next week, or really any week from now on. If you go to a comic store, pretty much any comic store, and tell them you want SCOTT PILGRIM GETS IT TOGETHER, from publisher ONI PRESS, Diamond Order Code JUN07 3779, they are able to order it. If they tell you they can't do it, it most likely means they won't do it, they are too lazy to do it, or they don't want and do not deserve your business, which you should take elsewhere immediately. I recommend the Internet.

6. Finally, if you live in the U.S. or Canada, you can order directly from my publisher, Oni Press. They will fill your order promptly and professionally.

7. If there's anything I've missed, let me know. I'm sure I've missed tons of stuff.

There are over 7000 copies of this book in circulation. There are thousands more at the warehouse. There is no shortage. The delays are at a distribution level which is huge, complex, and uncontrollable by yours truly, and I apologize.

i work for barnes & nobles, and the system says it's on "preorder" but when you attempt to order it for a customer, it'll order it. but, two days later i recieved an email that said

Thank you for your order. Despite our best efforts, we were unable to fill your order for:
1 copy of Scott Pilgrim Volume 4: Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together, 1932664491

We are sorry that we were unable to complete this order and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

If you would like to place a new order for this item, you are welcome to call us at the number below. Please reference the order number indicated above.

it goes on to give my store phone nummber. which i know for a fact, giving my store phone number won't help.

so yeah, i don't suggest trying to order it from b&n, at the very least.

I am told that B&N has not placed an order for the new book. Although I'm pretty sure they have the first three in stock. They are biding their time for some reason.

Hey Bryan, this is totally unrelated, but I was curious about something -- in the comics, why do you alter the names of some recognizable brand names, but not others? Like, for example, in the same panel you have "Wander bread" and Kraft Dinner.

I have no idea. Because I am incredibly inconsistent?

Eventually the world will catch-on, and you'll have a "Harry Potter" situation on your hands. Midnight lineups, and assholes running by them shouting spoilers. :)

(I got mine at The Beguiling on release day.)

What happens when you go to a comic book store in Calgary and ask for it, and they say they've never hear of it?
[info]destroyerzooey wrote:

You give them the title and the order code. That's really all you can do. It's not their fault they've never heard of it, I guess.

I'm sure they have gotten copies at several of the good stores in NYC. I don't remember the names of these stores at the moment. If they're sold out, they'll have reordered copies this wednesday or next.

There are no Scott Pilgrims in London at all.
I spoke to a guy at Gosh and he said "We over ordered and we were still shocked that it sold out in 4 days" Apparently it's going to take them a week or two to get restocked. UGN.

I know my store in Oshawa (World's Collide) ordered at least 6, because i saw 5 on the stands, in addition to mine.

I got that stupid message from Amazon.com, because i ordered it for an American friend's (http://www.scottpilgrim.com/images/fanart/ramona.jpg) Nov 29th birthday:
Bryan Lee O'Malley (Author) "Scott Pilgrim, Vol 4: Scott Pilgrim
Gets It Together" [Paperback]
Estimated arrival date: 01/19/2008 - 01/28/2008

We got a bunch at the shop I work at, but I'm not sure how many exactly. I know we had a lot though, because apparently tons of people ordered it from us. I made sure to pick mine up as soon as possible, before we ran out. :)

Amazon said they shipped my copy, but I think that's only because I complained to them that January sucked and I was going to cancel my order. They shipped it an hour after I sent my email in.

I bought mine at Legends in Victoria, before they sold out. However, my girlfriend bought a copy for me as well - by the time she returned it, Legends had sold out of all their copies and were pleasantly surprised to have another book to sell!

Aw dude it must be so frustrating - you've had it in the bin, you've been hyping it for one big explosive release date and it sorta trickles out like this? Lame. (Lame for you and your readers, that is, not that it makes you look lame.)

Amazon should have had a friggin' PARADE for you, considering that a major aspect of one of your main characters was conceived as a tribute to their prompt and reliable service.

Yeah, it's unfortunate... working in a small industry like this the perk is to have your book out a month after finishing, and the downside is that 90% of the world will be unprepared for its existence.

I work at the Yale Bookstore, which is a Barnes and Noble "College" store, which for reasons unknown to man and God is entirely different from Barnes and Noble.

Anyway, as I'm generally the one who handles comics, I've noticed that our system has book 4 down as coming out the 28th. This usually means the books will be in store for that day.

Both Midtown Comics and Forbidden Planet in NYC were sold out, so yay for sales! But boo for me trying to get a copy this week. Midtown said they'll have it tomorrow. I also checked B&N, but after seeing the previous posts, I see why I couldn't find it.

Oddly enough, I wandered into my local comic store in Saskatoon, SK, and there it was sitting on the shelf. I snatched at the only copy like a kid needing a caffeine fix.
