Collecting reviews

kitties
Can you guys help me out with something?

I would like to compile a list of reviews of Scott Pilgrim 1, 2, and 3, from whichever sources - preferably the ones that are more-or-less "official" and not like a kid posting his thoughts on his livejournal or something.

Format like this:

URL
Article title (if applicable)
Author's name
Source (publication or website)
Pull quote (pick the most representative line or two from the review - you know, like they do at metacritic and such)

This is for the forthcoming new Scott Pilgrim website.

If you folks reading the livejournal have some free time, please start compiling these links in the comments. Thanks ever so much. I'll contribute when I have some time and a solid internet connection.

Scott Pilgrim 1 and 2 Review
Hilary Goldstein

"What I assumed would be a trite, goofy and overdone manga-ripoff is instead one of the coolest books of 2005. And it takes place in Canada of all places. I love Scott Pilgrim."

"O'Malley manages to keep the emotional core grounded, even in such extreme situations such as when a public library is turned into a lost scene from Kill Bill."

I'm college trained for this sort of thing.

I'm afraid I only check your site for my Scott Pilgrim updates.

On another note. I love "Australia" very much. I just got that album a couple weeks ago.

I only really know Village Green and Arthur, but I do love them to bits. I have the Lola album kicking around somewhere but I think I only listened to it once. I remember it being awesome in a different way.

I also have a bunch of early singles that I ripped from an old roommate's box set which are also awesome.

I started with the "Lola" album and that's what got me hooked on the Kinks. I also got Muswell Hillbillies which is--as you said, awesome in a different way. I highly recommend getting it and giving it some time. It's a little more challenging because it's primarily "Americana" music which might be right up your alley actually.

The four albums we've mentioned is what I call (so far) the "4 Essential Kinks Albums". According to critics the earlier stuff is too "British Invasion" and the later is too "Rock Opera".

I'll figure it out eventually.

Scott Pilgrim, Vols. 1-3
Greg Oleksiuk
PopMatters
"Scott Pilgrim conveys an atmosphere that irresistibly draws the reader in. Perhaps it is the universal tale of falling in love and having to struggle to keep it; perhaps it is the numerous references to video games, comic books, and other geeky pleasures; or perhaps it is just because all of these factors meld together so well, that rather than being cheesy or silly, this comic comes across as genuine, entertaining and enthralling."

NOW WHERE IS MY PRIZE?

"A perfect potion of equal parts ensemble romantic melodrama, coming of age (a little too late), ADD level kineticism, video-game culture and the subsequent effect on youth definitions of progress, and general awesimeotivity, Scott is the best friend comics ever made. "

There's more that I and others wrote, but AICN's archives are acting all wonky right now, so I can't find the proper links. Happens every time they update their server...

Comic Worth Reading
"The book’s deeper than it appears at a quick glance. At first, the reader may only notice the video-game-style slugfests, but the cast and their relationships are becoming ever more complicated, with development revealed both through flashbacks and the characters’ growing historical awareness as they come to terms with their pasts."
