Thank you Joe M.

kitties
One of the things I remember clearly from when I was 19 is trying to justify this cover, weakly, to my then-girlfriend:

So, thank you, Joe Madureira, for showing me how NOT to attract a female readership...

Also, I'm glad I haven't grown up to be a 28-year-old who is still trying to justify shit like that to his girlfriend, if he has one. Poor guy.

I'm trying to get this book done. How's it going? It's going.

I bet that image is a perfect visual representation of what he sounds like when he talks to women, hence his being alone forever, hence his heavy pornography consumption, hence that ridiculous drawing.

Ah, but now the question becomes -- do you still have that book?

It really is a shame about BC, though...Gully & Calibretto were so much fun.

This post is making fuseji second-guess every female action hero in his comic collection.

there's only one real justification, though: giant boobs are hot.

Well, that's the most terrifying cover I've ever seen, that's for certain.

I will concede that Boobs can be as big as your head, but usually the rest of the physique has to go along with it. Else Critical Spine Failure is really the only realistic result.

I seem to recall seeing some cheap, no-name brand condoms here in Singapore that had illustrations on their packaging which were very, very similar to Joe Madureira's "Battle Chasers" covers.

Ha ha - i had a friend who was really into that comic. She didn't usually read comics (and is straight), so god knows what she saw in it. Funny to find it never finished its storyline.

Ouch, looks like Mad's compass got heavy usage...
So you don't bother justifying that stuff to your better half at all?

fucking battle chasers. i was reading wizard regularly at the time, and it irritated me to no end that wizard gave j.mad shit not for his ridiculously proportioned women, but because he couldn't keep a deadline. what?? also, my boyfriend justified it at the time by saying things like, "yeah, it's ridiculous, that's the point! ha ha ha?" >:|

I don't understand all the hype that Joe Mad gets. The Ultimates is going to be a travesty once he takes over for Bryan Hitch.

People bag on Joe Mad cause he blew deadlines & stuff, but Battle Chasers was a cool fantasy comic when there weren't any. I wish he coulda finished it. That said, I don't personaly go for the excuse that Red Monika was a parody, I think that's what he wanted to draw (and that's kinda too bad).

I can't believe I bought that. But, such is high school.

Oh, I love your work, Bryan (or do you prefer Mr. O'Malley?). I've reread the first three volumes, and I have a serious Scott Pilgrim deficiency in my bloodstream. Please finish volume 4 soon, or I will surely perish. I think. Or I'll have a headache for a while and get very sleepy. One of those.

Did I mention I love your work? I do. Keep it up. :)

I believe this can be justifiable if the character is more than mere cheesecake and has an actual personality.

Has you read Wapsi Square ( http://www.wapsisquare.com/ ), that webcomic has a main character who is.... well... very well endowed, but the comic has a big female readership since she's more than a pair of Jigglypuffs bouncing around.

Well, at least she has guns. Totally non-phallic guns that show that she is a "strong woman" while...

Shit, is she standing on one leg? Because, why would her legs be open otherwise?

And seriously, who are we to judge a young woman who seems to have never grown out of that phase where stuffing balloons in her shirt is the most hilarious thing ever?

Joe Madureira is still awesome.

The whole of the comics industry exists only because he hasn't decided to make his glorious return.

YET!

god, i totally loved battle chasers.

so pissed when garrison cut his hair. in like issue 2 ahaha. i liked his x men better though, i think. and what's with girls with the prefix "red"

i should change my name to red becky. and wear nothing but chain mail. "red ramona" sounds pretty good too, when you think about it. go on, say it out loud.
