If there was a Scott Pilgrim videogame

  • Sep. 23rd, 2006 at 8:35 PM
kitties
what would it be like?

my ideas:

1. 2D pixel graphics
2. side-scrolling fighting (see: double dragon)
3. with RPG and food elements (see: river city ransom)
4. with a dating sim included (see: japanese dating sim games)
5. the dating sim parts would have hilarious dialogue trees (see: monkey island)
6. it would also involve "rhythm game" mechanics (see: parappa the rapper, space channel 5, etc)
7. it would be kind of like Alex Kidd or something, you'd run around and fight dudes and go into subspace doors to play minigames! ha ha ha!

Note: there isn't going to be a Scott Pilgrim videogame, so don't worry.

Note 2: i was just playing Ninja Gaiden on the xbox, and i think it sucked. I quit after I died the first time, on level 2. I've been having more fun with Sega GT 2002. i like games where you don't have to die. i read this gaming flow stuff yesterday (courtesy Penny Arcade) and it was very interesting. too bad almost no designers actually think about these conceptual things because they're too busy designing scantily-clad sweet kid-sister tomboy vixen badass warrior whores.

I would buy 10 copies of this game.

I would play that game.

Kind of an aside to this, but I just found out that Okami has already been released in N. America?!? Aside from Shadow of the Colossus, this was that other crazy/pretty game that I was most looking forward to for the PS2's final gasp. The graphics look absolutely ridiculous.

Whatever happened to Videogames of our youth? The times where games were fun and didn't nessicarily involve breasts?

I'm glad Flow is getting more mainstream attention. It's a fantastic concept that works better than it really has any right to.

...I think it'd be fun to project it on the side of a building and control it via a laser pen. That'd be fun.

That all went down the toilet with the introduction of Mai Shiranui.

scantily-clad sweet kid-sister tomboy vixen badass warrior whores is the name of my new band
Despite your nifty little 8-bit icon, I think your work would translate well into a 2-D cell-shaded game. Maybe like a open-environment fighting game with rpg elements like you said.
We're about ten days away from someone posting a Ramona/Kim/Knives dating sim flash game on newgrounds.
It would also have to be on the Wii (or DS). And it would need a Guitar Heroes controller for the rocking-out mini-games.

Aw...
would be awesome though... even with alil Street Fighter-esque boss battles.

The Scott Pilgrim game sounds perfect... and it could have a licensed soundtrack with all your favorite bands!

Actually, what about the movie? Is there a chance for a videogame tie-in? (Look into it... more money and royalties for you!) And then there could be a said soundtrack of music from the game, and you could executive produce it and also gain a share of the profits.

Also, good call on designers not thinking about conceptual things and games where you don't die.

yeah, there'll be a shitty movie-tie-in video game of the comic-tie-in movie. that'd be awesome! maybe it'll have photorealistic actors in it, like the Street Fighter movie game.

Sounds perfect! I want that game.

Scott Pilgrim is totally on my top ten list of "Licenses I'd recommend to my clients if they ever asked me what game they should make next (but they won't)". I'd love to get to draw and animate 2D sprites of the cast beating each other up and rocking out.

Regarding the food elements, avoiding meat and dairy would have to give you super powers! I played through MGS3 living entirely off of fruits and mushrooms, and all Snake did was complain about being hungry. Major disapointment.

Oh also it should have vegan cooking bit's like Cooking Mama for the DS.

If fans can make a 3-D fighting game based on Penny Arcade, surely there are talented people out there in the Scott Pilgrim fandom that can make a 2-D side-scroller possible!
I don't think I'm crazy in making this assumption.
Maybe you should talk to Telltale Games. Scott Pilgrim would fit right in with Bone and Sam & Max... wouldn't he?

was thinking the exact same thing, come on "amateur" game-making ppl, make a side-scroller scott pilgrim game! you know you want to!

River City Ransom. Yes. Borrow as much from that formula as possible. I cannot express in human words just how much I loved that game - it just comes out as an indecipherable high-pitched squeal.

I'd say nothing higher than Super Nintendo-style graphics, either. I don't get these newfangled videogames with all their flashy polygons and 3-D environments and seventy-three button controllers.

have you ever played riveria for gba? it's a neat little rpg with dating sim elements...but not in a stupid way.

I totally think about this shit all the time! They totally call me a designer when they introduce me to people at work now. I am going to make the best video games ever, eventually or something, I guess. With good soundtracks.

Points and love to people who know who Alex Kidd is.

I think a Scott Pilgrim game would be soOOooo do-able by a fan with a lot of time. Not that I have the time to offer, but hell, I've done art on whole GBA games all by myself, so I know it could be done!

Anyways, those points are all things that would make a slick Scott Pilgrim game. I've been playing River City Ransom and Mighty Final Fight a lot lately, plus Alex Kidd in Miracle World is one of my all time favs.

There WILL be a SP video game one day. I foresee it as such. Whether it be fanmade or some kind of hurrcane of fandom via movie influenced developer game, it will happen. If I have to make it mysellfffffff.

there needs to be weapons that really have no bearing on anything at all, like scrooge mcduck's pogo stick cane in duck tales for the nes. that was a good game.

I don't know how it would work with Scott Pilgrim...
...But I like click games. My attention span doesn't afford much more than that. Like Kingdom of Loathing.

there should be Metroid elements, too, where you run around exploring and you can find secret places that give you power-ups that let you get into other areas you couldn't previously access.

If you could've put your name next to a video game sound effect or song, what would it've been?
Mine would be that faceplant sound effect Link has from The Legend of Zelda.

I would definately play that game, esp. the bits with the dating with SCUM type convo arcs.

If anyone has an NDS, the new Starfox game is cool, as is the English language version of CookMama which is also newly released. And that's *PEANUT'S PICKS*!

The question is: If a reputable game company was really interested in making a Scott Pilgrim game similar to the awesome amalgamation you've outlined, how would you react? Would you give it your blessing, or tell the developers to stop before they inevitably screw it up?

In defense of Ninja Gaiden on XBox
Here's my argument in favor of that Itagaki game: I liked it and enjoyed playing it.
