scott pilgrim Q&A thread #2

  • Aug. 9th, 2006 at 8:28 PM
kitties
I just noticed there that i have 710 "friend ofs" at this point. whyyyyy???

In honour of me being so popular, I want to do another SCOTT PILGRIM Q&A thread. Or you could also ask questions about Lost at Sea or my other work (what other work?).

There will definitely be SPOILERS about my existing books, so if you're planning to read them and don't want to be spoiled, please avoid! I will make sure not to spoil anything about future books. And as always i reserve the right to answer only the questions I feel like answering.

I'm working on my script and stuff, so some mind-prodding couldn't hurt, i guess. You could say i'm morbidly curious to see what people say in here.

(I never did a post-vol-3 character popularity survey, probably because I stopped being interested. I may do one eventually, though.)

well, since you said ALSO....I think Lost at Sea is one of my favorite comic book devices. And I wanted to ask, ...Well, see, I am a guy, so when I read it, I saw so much of certain girls I know in the character. Is she someone real, and if not, then what do you think of the idea of a character takling on a conceptual meaning for other people....BLAH!...sorry, that seems like a crazy question.

Will the film come out before you've finished the SP series? Because that would kind of suck.

Any reason why so many girls in Scott's life have red hair? Kim, Ramona, Envy, maybe others?

I was struck by how different Lost at Sea and Scott Pilgrim are (though I do see thematic overlaps, especially in SP's more tender moments), and I was just wondering what led you to go in a slightly different direction after Lost at Sea, especially with the 6 vol epic of Scott Pilgrim and its casual 4th wall breaking and video game themes?

Wow, I sound like a pretentious douchebag when I asked that. I'm really not though.

This is what happens when you get famous I'm told. Sooner or later you will be like Warren Ellis and have an army of undead fans that will do your every bidding.

Though I do have a question (and there is a chance that this has been answered in an interview or on this very journal before, so if it is just beat me with a stick or something)...

How long did it take to script and illustrate Lost At Sea and did the process get much easier for Scott Pilgrim?

Did Ramona really mount Lynette's robot arm on her wall?
Also, how did you come up with the name Knives Chau? Other than it sounding freakin' awesome. Were there other incomprehensibly awesome names preceding it?

Finally, What's Scott's favorite videogame?

Will there ever be a Stephen Stills spin-off book? Or like maybe a day-in-the-life kind of one-shot in the back of some volume.

I'm just throwin' that out there.

I would ask a question, but everything i can think of comes down to, "why are you so awesome?"

So, in lieu of a good question, I'll just say that your ability to mix angst and whimsy blows my brain out the back of my head. Kudos.

It's been a while since I've read volume 2, so this might have been answered in there and I am just not remembering...

What did Scott major in when he was attending university? He did go to college right? I seem to remember him mentioning college when he was exlaining the story of his his break up with NV to Ramona.

This is a dumb meta one but how on earth do you sit down and work or even go on the internet and post this knowing that there are hundreds of us crazies who will read it? Seriously, it doesn't make you die? To what extent can you avoid feeling pressure to play to what your readers want and stick to the stuff that makes your friends laugh (which I assume is basically what resonates with the rest of us anyway)?

Also don't think I don't know that the reason there's no favorite character poll is that this time Michael Comeau would finally win and I'd be vindicated and you'd be so sad. And then you'd have to sit around in a gin-filled haze wondering whether the next book should be more about him than Scott, which it totally shouuld. See, this is how my question works!

when you're an old, rich, famous man, with every ounce of creativity and inspiration squeezed out of you, do you think you will take all your old artwork and comics and throw them together in a quickly wrapped together book so you can make some extra cash to buy that really neat jacket you saw at the mall the other day?

or, i guess, will you ever tell the end of those stories you've never finished? particulary world end solution and/or locked in the trunk of a car? or a book full of STYLES?

Lost at Sea was neat-o torped-o btw.

So many questions...

first, Is Stephen Stills the singer of Sex Bobomb? you only sort of see him singing during the bit in the first book, and Scott always has a mic for no discernible purpose. Mainly wondering cause of the frame with the nubile asian teens after Sex Bob-omb go on at the end of 3.

and is Lisa done with or is she coming back? (I have theories... suspicious theories)

and out of mild curiosity, how much change did Todd drop?

that should dooo

One question that's been bugging me to no end since I read Vol.1: Did you intentionally name Stephen Stills after the famous musician? Or was that in some way a mysterious coincidence?

do any of the SP characters have pets? I kind of imagine Kim would have a fat old indoor cat or a pet rat.
